This happened this day

6 June:

In 1994 West Indian Brian Lara completed the record first class score of 501 not out while playing for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston. He beat Hanif Mohammad’s record of 499. In all Lara faced only 427 balls, and hammered 62 fours and ten sixes. On the final day he whacked 174 runs before lunch. He also became the first man to make seven hundreds in eight first-class innings, the first of which was his historic 375 against England at Antigua. (Manoj Prabhakar’s inability to play for Warwickshire due to injury enabled Lara to take his place in the team, and in cricket history.)
